Have you used an hdmi adapter or soldered the hdmi output on

Just curious if one of these options work better than the other. Currently I'm using an S-Video cable but still looks horrible on an HDTV. I know I should be using a tube TV but everyone wants a fortune for them nowadays.

So, what works echatrandom echatspin better? HDMI cable or soldered mod?

Any guides?

I found that the proper HDMI mods really don't make sense cost wise considering the relatively small N64 library. IMO, modding the system for RGB then outputting to a Retrotink 2x is the way to go if you don't want to go the CRT route. Total cost should be less than $200 for a pre-modded system, 2x and cables; YMMV when it comes to modding an existing console.
