Core isolation and hibernation/vt

I enabled the Windows core isolation on my Windows 10 machine. After reboot, two things stopped working:

- Intel VT (Virtualization Technology). Both VMWare and Virtualbox were not able to use it anymore. Of course, nothing else changed except the Core Isolation option.

- Hibernation: after enabling Core Isolation, putting the device in hibernation required administrator privileges. Also, it didn't actually work. Even if the screen was showing 'Computer entering hibernation', removing the power was causing Windows to lose the saved state.

Immediately after disabling Core Isolation, both features started working again.

So, the question here is: is this normal? It appears to me that VT and hibernation are 'important features' so it seems strange that they break with core isolation enabled.

Thanks!

Core isolation and hibernation/vt

It's not uncommon for certain features to be affected when enabling Windows Core Isolation on a Windows 10 machine. The behavior you experienced with Intel VT and hibernation is not unusual. When Core Isolation is enabled, it introduces security measures that can impact hardware virtualization and power management functions.

Intel VT, which allows virtualization software to utilize hardware acceleration, may be disabled or restricted when Core Isolation is enabled. This can cause virtualization software like VMWare and Virtualbox to no longer be able to use Intel VT.

Similarly, hibernation may be affected because Core Isolation modifies the system's power management settings. With Core Isolation enabled, hibernation may require administrator privileges to save the system state properly, and even then, it may not function as expected.

While it may seem inconvenient that these important features are impacted, it is important to remember that Core Isolation prioritizes security by isolating critical system components. This isolation can restrict certain functionalities to ensure system integrity.

If you require both Intel VT and hibernation functionality, you may need to consider disabling Core Isolation. However, keep in mind that this will remove the added security provided by Core Isolation. It's advisable to weigh the importance of these features against the security benefits of Core Isolation when making a decision.
